Entry Bans – Vehicles without Environmental Badge

As the environmental zones in Austria currently restrict the entry of trucks only, busses, motorcycles, cars and motorhomes are free to drive within the zones at all times. However, those can order an Austrian environmental badge on a voluntary basis since 2015, as it is expected that the requirement for a badge will be extended to all types of vehicles.

The following vehicles from the categories N1 to N3 cannot obtain an environmental badge and are consequently not allowed to drive within the Austrian environmental zones:

  • Lorries/trucks from the categories N1 to N3 registered before 01.10.1993 (EURO 0)
  • Lorries/trucks from the categories N1 to N3 registered before 01.10.1996 (EURO 1*)
  • Lorries/trucks from the categories N1 to N3 registered before 01.10.2001 (EURO 2*)

*partly, depending on the environmental zone

However, each federal state in Austria has its own rules, so that only EURO 0 can be for sure excluded. You will find more details under the menu point “environmental zones in Austria”.

The driving bans is always valid from Monday to Sunday, from 0pm to 0am, in other words 24/7.
