The Environmental Zone in Upper Austria

The environmental zone in Upper Austria has been introduced on 30.06.2015 by the Landesgesetzblatt für OÖ Nr. 87  and came into force for Lorries from 01.07.2016.
It is one of the most recent environmental zones introduced in Austria. The environmental zone came into force on 01.07.2016 and it concerns currently trucks (N2 and N3) responding to the standards EURO 0, 1 and 2. The date for an enforcement of the measure remains open.

If a driving ban is violated, an environmental badge is not on the windscreen or a vehicle drives too fast on a motorway marked "IG-L", fines of up to 2,000 euros apply in accordance with § 30 (4) of IG-L, Immissionsschutzgesetz - Luft of 27.11.2015. If a manipulation of the badge is detected, these fines can even be much higher.

Upper Austria is one of 9 Austrian federal states. Almost 1,5 million inhabitants live here on an area of approximately 11,980 km². The state capital is Linz, which has around 203,000 inhabitants.
The Upper Austrian environmental zone is located in the south of Linz. So far, it only concerns one part of the A1 highway. Therefore, long-distance traffic in particular has to adapt to entry restrictions.

The environmental zone concerns sections of the A1 highway between the connecting point of Enns Ost at the km 155,087 and the connecting point Knoten Haid at the km 175,220 on both driving directions.

You will find more information about the environmental zone in Upper Austria on the website of the federal state of Upper Austria.
