The table above shows which vehicles can get an Austrian environmental badge depending on their first date of registration and their corresponding EURO norm.
Currently, the environmental badge is mandatory for Lorries and small trucks (N1) only, in order to drive into the Austrian environmental zones. All other vehicle types can however apply to obtain an environmental badge on a voluntary basis.

The European Emission Standards
The European emission standards “Euro” are definitions of the European Union which determine the maximum limit of pollutant emissions from vehicles. These norms use to get stronger and stronger for new vehicles. The aim is the reduction of air pollutants in the EU.
On the left you will find the present and future European emission standards for vehicles and their first registration date.
Information Needed for the Order of an Environmental Badge
If the vehicle has been first registered after the 01.01.1993 (EURO standards 1 to 6), then only a copy of the vehicle registration certificate will be needed for the order of an Austrian environmental badge.
If the vehicle has been registered before this date, there will be no environmental badge allocated. Please note that there is already circulation interdictions for vehicle of the EURO 1 standard. Therefore, a circulation interdiction can occur in some environmental zones even though the vehicle obtained a black EURO 1 environmental badge. A refund of the purchase price is not possible.
If the vehicle is equipped with a particulate filter, the document proving it must also be attached to the order.
